Stickley Furniture

Noriega Furniture

is the oldest Stickley dealer in California. In 1976, our search for the finest quality furniture led us to Stickley. And now, years later, we proudly feature these iconic pieces in our showroom. We have furnished homes and public institutions throughout the U.S. and abroad.

Gustav Stickley marked his product with the phrase Als Ik Kan– “to the best of my ability,” to assure his customers that Stickley furniture was of the finest quality, every piece made with honor, integrity, and pride. The Stickley brothers burst into international prominence in the early 20th century with their Mission Oak designs. These were based on the notion that furniture should be “honest”—a reaction against the ornamental joinery, unnecessary gaudiness, and shoddy workmanship of many of the pieces created in the early days of industrial furniture making.

Their use of solid construction, what-you-see-is-what-you-get joinery, and the highest quality woods. But even more, they showed a genius for design, creating hundreds of new forms that were at once beautiful to look upon, practical to use, exceedingly strong, long-lasting, and perfect for the new ways American families wanted to live. Their mantra was let the function of the furniture dictate the form. This idea resonates as much today as it did over 100 years ago.

Stickley furniture was not designed for shutting up in formal settings—it was to be used and loved by young and old. Great emphasis was placed on letting the gorgeous, organic forms of quartersawn oak and other woods speak for themselves. Finishes were not thick gums, but clear dyes that allowed natural grain to sparkle. These principals are as important today as they were years ago.

In the 1970s the Audi family purchased the Stickley company. At his Manhattan showroom, E.J. Audi had for years been the leading seller of Stickley’s unsurpassed furniture. His son Alfred, and Alfred’s wife Aminy, were unwilling to let this company become a relic of the past, and decided to purchase the factory when Leopold’s widow was on the brink of closing it. Alfred promised the couple of dozen employees then remaining that “If you stick with me, I’ll stick with you, and we’re going to make this place move.” Together, they rejuvenated the company. And today, the name Stickley has become synonymous with quality and is regarded worldwide.

While still producing the iconic designs of the Mission/Arts & Crafts periods, Stickley continues to update its furniture for today’s lifestyles. Old world craftsmanship combined with a 21st Century attention to detail ensures that your investment in Stickley will pay dividends for many years.

Enduring tradition, superior craftsmanship, an unshakeable philosophy of excellence—these are the foundations of the Stickley ethic, and the reason that Stickley produced and continues to produce America’s premium hardwood furniture.

Cherry Finishes - American Black Cherry has a naturally broad spectrum of color and grain. At Stickley, craftspeople blend its shades and grain to create a balance on each piece, but variations will be visible. Like fine wine, cherry's color mellows and deepens with age, developing a rich patina over time. This natural phenomenon makes each piece of cherry furniture a unique work of art.

Oak Finishes - Quartersawn American white oak produces boards of great strength, less likely to crack, check or warp than flat-sawn timber and ideal for crafting furniture that will last for generations. Quartersawing also reveals the ray flake, a highly prized tiger-stripe pattern running across the grain that makes each piece of furniture unique.

Mahogany Wood- To protect the species, Stickley sources only plantation-grown Mahogany from Honduras, where the forests are managed and sustainable. This tropical hardwood is prized for a rich reddish-brown color that deepens over time. It lends itself to intricate carving, and crotch mahogany veneers create stunning feather-like grain patterns.

Walnut Wood - Black Walnut is one of the hardest and most durable of the American hardwoods. Its grain is primarily straight, but occasional knots, curls, and burls give it character. The wood also achieves a silky smoothness with sanded and finished. Stickley’s Walnut Grove collection is a gorgeous example of the beauty and versatility of American Black Walnut.
